Weather-wise, October is a great time to visit New York City, and you beat the crowded November and December holiday season.
If your plans are bringing you here October 21-23 this year, anchor your vacation with a little continuing professional ed at this year's International Law Weekend. Organized annually by the American Branch of the International Law Association (ABILA) and the International Law Students Association (ILSA) in conjunction with the annual meeting of the ABILA, ILW features panels of professors, practitioners and other experts from governmental and non-governmental sectors.
This year's theme is "International Law and Institutions: Advancing Justice, Security and Prosperity." On its ILW page http://www.ilsa.org/conference/ILW/2010.php, where you can view the schedule of panels and events and register, ILSA describes this year's event:
"The global strategic and financial turmoil of the last several years has created unprecedented challenges and opportunities for international law and institutions. ILW 2010 will address the role of international law and institutions in reducing conflict, promoting security, fostering human rights, protecting the environment, facilitating trade and investment, and resolving public and private international disputes. Panels will examine subjects such as the extent to which treaties currently under negotiation or consideration would further these objectives, and the operation and effect of international organizations, international courts, and arbitral institutions on the global legal order."
